Count people and bags together
A car that seats your group may still be too small for its luggage. As a guide: hatchback or sedan — up to 4 people and 2 large bags; Ertiga — up to 6 with 3 bags; SUV — up to 7 with 4 bags; Innova or Crysta — 6 with 4 bags; Tempo Traveller — 12 with plenty of space.
Six passengers going to Gangtok or Darjeeling
An Innova or Innova Crysta is the most comfortable for six adults on long hill drives. An Ertiga costs less and suits families on good roads, but the boot is small with all seats in use. A Bolero-type SUV is sturdy for rough stretches but firmer to ride.
Elderly parents and motion sickness
Choose an Innova or Crysta, ask for the middle row, and plan breaks every 1.5 to 2 hours. Morning journeys are cooler and calmer. Tell us in the booking so the driver keeps a gentle pace.
Children
Bring your own child seat if your child uses one; carry snacks and water for the climb. For very young children, a shorter route day (for example Mirik instead of Pelling) is easier.
Roof carriers and big suitcases
On hill routes, extra luggage goes on a covered roof carrier when the boot is full. Very large suitcases fit better in an SUV, Innova or Tempo Traveller.
